Understanding Contract Signing Order

Understand the difference between pre-signing and post-signing contracts and how to set the right signing order.

✍️ Choosing When You Sign a Contract (Pre‑sign vs. Post‑sign)

When creating a contract in Maroo, you can choose when you (the vendor) sign in relation to your client. This setting controls the signing flow and ensures the contract is executed in the order that best fits your workflow.

You can choose to sign before your client or sign after your client, depending on how you prefer to manage approvals and final reviews.

🛠️ Your Signing Options

You have two signing order choices:

  • Sign before the client (Pre‑sign)

  • Sign after the client (Post‑sign)

📍 Where to Find This Setting

During contract creation, you’ll see these options:

  • Countersign the contract yourself (toggle)

  • Would you like to sign before or after the client?

    • Before

    • After

✍️ Option 1: Sign Before the Client (Pre‑sign)

If you choose Before, you will sign the contract first.

How it works

  1. You create the contract

  2. You sign the contract first

  3. The contract is sent to your client

  4. Your client reviews and signs

When to use this

  • You want to approve and finalize the contract before the client sees it

  • Your signature is required to validate the agreement upfront

  • You want to speed up the client’s signing process

💡 Tip: Pre‑signing reduces back‑and‑forth and can help contracts get completed faster.

🕒 Option 2: Sign After the Client (Post‑sign)

If you choose After, your client will sign first, and you’ll countersign afterward.

How it works

  1. You create the contract

  2. The contract is sent to your client

  3. Your client signs first

  4. You receive the signed contract and countersign

When to use this

  • You want to review the client’s signed agreement before finalizing

  • Your signature acts as the final confirmation

  • Internal approval is required after the client signs

💡 Tip: Post‑signing is ideal when you need a final review step before the contract becomes fully executed.

⚠️ Key Things to Remember

  • Enabling Countersign the contract yourself allows you to sign the contract

  • Choosing Before makes you the first signer

  • Choosing After makes you the final signer

  • The signing order cannot be changed once the contract is sent

💡 Best Practice

Choose the signing order that aligns with your business workflow:

  • Use Pre‑sign for faster execution and upfront approval

  • Use Post‑sign when you need a final review or internal sign‑off
