Common Questions about Contract Addendum

Find answers to common questions about Contract Addendums, including when to use them, how they work, and what you can update after a contract has been signed.

What is a Contract Addendum?

A Contract Addendum is a separate document that allows you to make updates or add new terms to an existing contract without changing the original agreement.

It helps keep a clear record of the original contract while documenting any revisions, additional agreements, or updates made afterward.

When should I use a Contract Addendum?

You should use a Contract Addendum when you need to make changes to a contract that has already been partially signed or fully signed.

Common reasons to create an addendum include:

  • Updating pricing or fees

  • Adding new services or deliverables

  • Revising contract terms

  • Adding additional clauses

  • Clarifying existing information

Can I create an addendum if the contract has not been signed yet?

No. If a contract has not been signed by any party, you can edit the original contract instead.

Contract Addendums are intended for contracts that have already been partially signed or fully signed.

Does a Contract Addendum replace the original contract?

No. The original contract remains unchanged. The addendum is created as a separate document and is linked to the original agreement.

This allows you to keep a complete history of the original terms and any updates made afterward.

Will my client receive a notification when I create an addendum?

Yes. Once you complete the addendum creation process and send it for signatures, the required parties will receive an email requesting their review and signature.

Can I edit an addendum before sending it?

Yes. Before sending the addendum for signatures, you can review and update the addendum content to ensure all changes are accurate.

Can I update the client information in an addendum?

No. Client information is automatically carried over from the original contract and is used to maintain the connection between the addendum and the original agreement.

Can I remove or change signers when creating an addendum?

The signers from the original contract are automatically carried over. You can review the signer information during the addendum creation process and adjust it based on your needs.

Are addendums saved separately from the original contract?

Yes. Each addendum is created as a separate contract document but remains linked to the original contract for easier tracking and reference.

Where can I find the addendum after creating it?

Once an addendum has been created, you can find it in the Contracts tab alongside your other contracts.

The addendum is listed as a separate contract while remaining linked to the original agreement. From either the original contract or the addendum, you can easily navigate between the related documents, track signatures, view the audit trail, and access any associated invoices.

Can I create an addendum for a partially signed contract?

Yes. Contract Addendums can be created for contracts that have been partially signed or fully signed.

Can I create more than one addendum for the same contract?

Yes. You can create multiple addendums for a single contract whenever additional updates or revisions are needed.

Each addendum will remain connected to the original contract.

Can I create an invoice from an addendum?

Yes. You can create an invoice directly from a Contract Addendum, just as you would from a regular contract.

To do this, open the addendum from the Contracts tab and select Create Invoice from the available actions.

Can I delete an addendum after creating it?

Addendums follow the same contract management rules. If you delete an addendum, the deletion is permanent and cannot be recovered.
