Create a Contract from Scratch with E-Signature

Learn how to create a contract from scratch using Maroo's built-in editor, add dynamic placeholders and signature fields, and send it to your clients for electronic signature.

Maroo’s built‑in document editor makes it simple to create contracts from scratch and send them for electronic signature — no external editor required.

You can draft your contract directly in Maroo, insert dynamic placeholders for client and event information, add signature fields, and send the document for signing in just a few clicks.

📋 Before You Begin

To create a contract from scratch, navigate to Contracts and choose Electronic Signature.

You’ll see two options:

  • Upload scan (Upload a PDF) – Use an existing contract.

  • Electronic signature – Electronically sign the contract through Maroo.

Step 1: Create a New Document

  • Go to Contracts

  • Select Electronic Signature

  • Click Draft from Scratch

  • Select Create Document

A blank document editor will open where you can begin writing your contract.

📝 Step 2: Write or Paste Your Contract

Use the editor just like any standard word processor. You can:

  • Type your contract directly

  • Copy and paste an existing contract into the editor

  • Format your text as needed

💡 If you paste an existing contract, Maroo will recognize many common fields, making it easier to add placeholders afterward.

🔧 Step 3: Add Placeholders

Personalize your contract using placeholders. These automatically pull information from your project, client, or contract — saving you time and reducing errors.

Available placeholders include:

  • Contract name

  • Client name

  • Event name

  • Event date

  • Business information

  • And more

To add a placeholder:

  • Locate the Placeholders panel on the right side of the editor

  • Drag the desired placeholder into your contract

  • Drop it wherever you want the information to appear

When the contract is sent, placeholders are automatically populated with the correct details.

🖋 Step 4: Add Signature Fields

Next, add the fields your client needs to complete.

Drag and drop fields such as:

  • Signature

  • Full Name

  • Email Address

  • Signer information

These can be placed anywhere in the contract, giving you full flexibility over layout.

📨 Step 5: Continue to Sending

Once your contract is ready:

  • Click Continue

  • Review the contract details

  • Enter an email subject

  • Verify recipient information

When everything looks correct, click Send for Signature.

Once you click Send for Signature, Maroo will email the contract to your client, generate a unique signing link, and allow your client to review and electronically sign the document. Both you and your client can access the contract through the signing link throughout the signing process.

📂 What’s Next?

After your client signs the contract, you can:

  • Monitor its status directly in Maroo

  • Keep all signed agreements organized in one place
