When downloading 1099 forms for your workers, you may notice that one contractor shows a “Not Ready” status while others are available. This article explains what the Not Ready status means and how to resolve it.
What Does “Not Ready” Mean?
The “Not Ready” status indicates that the contractor’s W-9 form is incomplete or contains missing or incorrect information.
Since the 1099 form relies on the information provided in the W-9, the system cannot generate or finalize the 1099 until the W-9 details are complete and verified.
Because of this dependency, the Not Ready status may appear for both the W-9 and the 1099.
How to Fix the “Not Ready” Status
To resolve this issue, the contractor needs to complete or correct their W-9 information.
Follow these steps:
Go to your Reporting tab
Select Quick Actions
Choose Send W-9 reminder to all
The contractor will receive a notification asking them to complete or update their profile information.
After verification is complete, the status will update and the 1099 form will become available for download.

What Information Might Be Missing?
The missing or incomplete fields are usually visible in your worker list and may include:
Legal name
Address
Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) or Social Security Number
Other required W-9 details
Once these fields are completed by the contractor, the form can be processed.
Key Takeaway
A “Not Ready” status typically means the contractor’s W-9 information is incomplete or needs correction. Sending a reminder allows the contractor to update their details so the system can verify the information and generate the 1099.
