Autopay on Maroo makes collecting installment payments easier by automatically charging your client’s saved payment method according to your invoice payment schedule.
Instead of manually following up for each installment, autopay helps ensure payments are processed on time—giving both you and your clients a smoother experience.
What is Autopay?
Autopay is an invoice setting controlled by your business that requires your client to connect a payment method for future scheduled charges.
This feature is designed for invoices with multiple payment milestones, allowing Maroo to automatically process each installment when it becomes due.
For example:
Deposit due today
Second payment due in 30 days
Final payment due in 60 days
Once your client pays the first installment and agrees to autopay, the remaining payments will be processed automatically based on the schedule.
How is Autopay different from having a card on file?
Autopay only applies to the specific invoice where it was enabled.
This means:
✅ Maroo can charge future scheduled installments on that invoice
❌ Maroo cannot charge your client for new or additional costs outside of that invoice
For example, if you need to bill your client later for extra services (such as overtime, add-ons, or event overages), you’ll need to create a new invoice and your client must make a separate payment.
How to Enable Autopay on an Invoice
⚠️ Important note: Autopay is available only for itemized invoices with multiple payment dates.
To enable autopay:
Create an itemized invoice.
Set up multiple payment milestones or installment dates.
Go to the Payment Methods section.
At the top, toggle Autopay on.
Send the invoice to your client.
Once enabled, your client will be required to connect a payment method that can be charged for future scheduled payments.
Managing Autopay After Sending an Invoice
After creating the invoice:
Open the invoice from your dashboard.
Look at the Payment Schedule section on the right-hand side.
You’ll see confirmation if autopay is enabled.
Use the toggle to turn autopay on or off if needed.
ℹ️ You can only change autopay settings before your client makes their first payment.
Once the first payment is made, autopay settings are locked and cannot be changed.
How to Find Invoices with Autopay Enabled
You can quickly identify autopay-enabled invoices in two ways:
Autopay Notifications
Maroo keeps both you and your clients informed about autopay activity.
When autopay settings change:
If you update autopay after sending the invoice, both you and your client will receive notifications about the change.
For example:
Turning autopay on
Turning autopay off
Updating the payment schedule
Payment reminders:
Clients also receive automatic reminders:
3 days before the payment date
1 day before the payment date
These reminders notify them that the payment will be charged automatically.
