You were trying to make a payment using your debit card but received an error saying "Insufficient funds"? We know how to help. Here are the two most common reasons why this happened.

Reason #1

Your bank could have what they call a daily spend cap. This is a common practice for bank to prevent fraudsters withdrawing funds in an event of a debit card payment being stolen. What that means is that the bank won't allow particularly large payments to go through via your card if they exceed the specific cap they define or that you allowed yourself during application process with your bank. This is the most common reason for the message above. As annoying as it may be, in the end of the day banks do it as a means to protect your account.

Two things you can do to fix this:

  • Call your bank and ask them to increase the daily processing cap on your account.

  • You can go back to the payment request and opt to pay for the invoice via bank transfer.

Reason #2

This is the most obvious one but sometimes it really is the case that the account doesn't have the funds. So always good to do a quick double-check!
